KOREAN WAR
June 25, 1950 is a tragic day that shall never be forgotten in the minds of the Korean people. The day marks the beginning of the Korean War, a civil war that broke out between people of the North and South. A few months later, no fewer than 16 countries sent troops to help the South. Meanwhile, the Chinese and the Soviet Union decided to help the North. The war lasted for 3 years. Millions of people were killed or separated from their families. North and South Korea have remained divided ever since.
In 2000, South Korean President Kim Dae-jung made a visit to North Korea, where he met with North Korean leader Kim Jung-il. They agreed to work on peaceful relations and to help reunite separated families. Many people are hoping that both governments will work together in harmony so that there will never be war in Korea again.
